April 27th – April 30, 2017
Join in a weekend of fun, clinics and racing! The week of events will include a Paddle Technique Clinic, 12-Mile Circumnavigation of Key West, Relay Races, Sprint Races, Kids SUP Clinic and Race plus more! Paddle around the Island with all your friends and fellow SUP athletes!

PADDLE TECHNIQUE & STROKE CLINIC Power Speed Stamina!
Each year Lazy Dog invites a professional paddler to share their secrets success and to teach paddlers in their own creative way how to improve their stroke and speed! This Race Preparation clinic will cover all fundamentals of SUP race technique, breaking the stroke down to create full body connection and muscle activation through each phase of the paddle stroke allowing you to be more efficient, give you more power and maintain for longer periods of time! Clinic will also cover race tips & strategy as well as nutrition, training schedules and other workout routines!

** IMPORTANT NOTE: All racers required to pick up packets before the morning of the race. If you are unable to attend the happy hour at Lazy Dog or the registration party at Turtle Kraals, packets will be available after the race at the registration tent.

12-Mile Distance Race “Paddle Around the Island” WPA Southeast Region National Points Race Paddlers can compete individually on a single paddle craft, in a group on multiple person paddle craft, or as a Relay Team consisting of 3 persons with switch off locations and transportation!

10am SPECIAL OLYMPICS FUN DEMO/RACE
Enjoy this playful display of fun as these athletes put on one heck-of-a show in a beachside demo race. The purpose of this demo is to introduce our honored beneficiaries of the Key West Paddle Classic. Each year the Classic donates $3,000+ to the Special Olympics Monroe County Paddle Board Team!

6pm-10:00pm Awards Celebration at Turtle Kraals Restaurant & Bar

Clinic is for kids ages 6-16. All ages 17 and under can race!
Age groups will be broken down as follows: 8&under, 9-11, 12-14, 15-17
(check-in for Clinic is at 8am in covered concrete pavilion)
For all levels! Reserve your child’s spot on the registration page. Please create a paddle guru account in your child’s name for clinic/race entry.
$30 Clinic includes free entry into the kids race.

SUNDAY FUN-DAY at SNIPES POINT
Departs at 12 Noon from Lazy Dog at Hurricane Hole Marina TBA
Venture out with us on a journey through the backcountry to the legendary sand bar of Snipes Point just off of Key West. Enjoy a scenic boat ride, picnic lunch, & paddling in this amazing island oasis. We will commence in the “Classic” paddle games…….including sprints, relays, and other fun events ….like paddle jousting!!!!! :)

(We are still working out the details for Sunday Funday but trust us when we say this will be a FANTASTIC time! We are no strangers to FUN and we look forward to sharing a special “LOCAL” piece of our little island! )

Lazy Dog PaddleYoga/WPA Level 1 Teacher Training.
The course is geared towards introducing yoga practitioners and yoga teachers to the sport of SUP. We have been successfully training men and women from all over the country for the last 5 years. The Lazy Dog PaddleYoga adventure began in 2008 and is still running strong.

The training will cover, but is not limited to: SUP equipment overview, SUP skills and technique, Adapting Yoga to SUP and PaddleYoga class development, water safety and rescue, chart exploration and weather knowledge, marketing tips and business application.

SUPFest 6 Mile Paddle Board Race

Key West, Florida January 29, 2017

SUPfest’s “Lazy Dog Bone Island 6-Miler ” is a fun paddle race down the channel, through the island canals, under bridges, around mangroves and other obstacles, and exits to the Gulf of Mexico finishing back at the lazy Dog Paddle Shack!  Board rentals are available through calling the Lazy Dog Shack at 305-295-9898. World Paddle Association Instructor’s Certification

$295 Gets you certified!
Lazy Dog will be holding a World Paddle Association SUP Certification Class in Key West on Thursday January 28, 2016 from 9a-3p. Check in is at 8:30am.
The WPA Water Safety curriculum includes classroom and on water instruction as part of the water safety education classes that includes:
• Board and Equipment Purchasing
• SUP Etiquette
• Safety Planning
• Injury Prevention
• Water Dynamics
• Boating Laws
• Board & Paddling Skills
• Rescue techniques
• Water Safety information
All instructors who complete a World Paddle Association Water Safety class are also required to complete the following criteria to satisfy the certification requirements. An instructor may attend a WPA Water Safety class if have not met the following CPR/First aid and insurance criteria:
Requirements:
• CPR/First Aid certificate (class format through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross)
• Liability insurance coverage (we will send you information with lower insurance rates only available for WPA instructors)
• $75 per year to maintain WPA instructor certificate (first year fee included in the first class)
• 80% on certification exam
• WPA member
Benefits:
• Marketing: instructors will be posted by level and region on the WPA website
• Insurance: discounted rates for individual and group insurance
• Backed by a structured organization with the WPA and the WPA Board of Instructors
• Updates with curriculum supplied to all WPA instructors
This is a one day class to meet your requirements for a WPA instructor class I certification. All instructors attending must adhere to the guidelines set forward by the WPA at www.worldpaddleassociation.com. Feel free to pack a lunch. There is a full service restaurant on premise however we will conduct more of a lunch and learn style lunch instead of taking a lunch break.
If for some reason you have to cancel and cannot attend you will not lose your deposit. We will apply your deposit to the next WPA class that you can attend.
Please note that along with your credentials that you have submitted on your application you MUST be able to maneuver and paddle a board in a confident and comfortable fashion. The WPA classes are tailored to the sport of stand up paddling. Your certification will be delayed and/or withheld if the instructors feel that your skill level is not up the standards needed to teach lessons as a WPA Instructor.

Hemingway Days 5K run & 3 mile Paddle Board race

Dates for 2017 TBA Paddle Race starts at 6pm, 5K starts at 7:30pm

Do both or do just one.

The popular 5K Run (and Walk) is the oldest ongoing race in Key West, and for the fourth year also combines a Paddleboard Race, which has grown tremendously. Entrants are encouraged to sign up early and can reserve paddle boards with Lazy Dog Outfitters. At 6 p.m., the paddle board race starts at the island’s Southernmost Beach, 1405 Duval St. The course is three miles on the Atlantic Ocean then finishes back at the beach.

Then the 5K Run will begin at 7:30 at the Southernmost Point in the continental United States, which overlooks the ocean at Whitehead and South streets. The fast, flat 3.1-mile course takes runners through picturesque Old Town Key West past landmarks including the Ernest Hemingway Home & Museum.

In true Key West style, there’s an after-party back at the beach by the Southernmost Beach Cafe., with awards, food, libations, raffles, and a silent auction.

On race day, the registration booth will be open from 3-7 p.m. at the Southernmost Hotel. Race packets can be picked up there. The race will be chip timed.

LAZY DOG STAND UP PADDLING CLASSES!

Lazy Dog is offering an Intro to Stand-Up Paddling Class for the Hemingway Days 5k & Lazy Dog Paddle Board Race.

Classes will be held at Lazy Dog, in the Hurricane Hole Marina, Sotck Island on Thursday, July 21st. and Friday, July 22nd. Class times are 5pm-6:30pm.

Learn from our WPA certified instructors. We are delighted to share our knowledge with you to help you have a safe and successful race experience. Whether you are a first time paddler or a paddler looking to brush up on your paddle stroke technique and gain some pointers before race day, this class is for you!

Cost is $15

Lazy Dog Race the Reef

September 10, 2017 Key West, Florida

Annual event on the weekend after Labor day.

Step 1:  Enjoy a sunrise sail out the the reef
Step 2:  We throw your paddle board overboard at the reef
Step 3: Jump in the water, get on your board and paddle race back to Key West

Race is approximately a 6 miler open ocean race (course may vary depending on weather). Sebago Catamarans located at the Historic Seaport District will take racers out to the start line on the reef. Racers will jump off boat with their board and will race to Higgs Beach, Key West. Awards immediately following on the beach. Food and drink supplied by Salute Restaurant. Transportation back to Sebago (if you left your car there) will be provided by Lazy Dog. Board transportation will not be available. CASH bar for beer & cocktails! Transport to the reef is sponsored by Sebago Catamarans!

Halloween weekend.  Annual Haunted Kayak for some haunted mangrove fun!!
Guided 30 min tours leaving every half hour from 7-10. Cost is $10 for everyone over 10 years and $5 for children under 10.
ONLY DOUBLE KAYAKS AVAILABLE!! (can fit small children in middle of a double. Prices are per person not per kayak.
